Who we are

Laudato Si Centre Comboni Uganda (LSCC) is a Catholic organization established by the Comboni Missionaries in January 2023, inspired by Pope Francis’s 2015 encyclical “Laudato Si’,” which advocates for ecological conversion. LSCC is committed to fostering environmental sustainability and integral ecology in Uganda. Central to its mission is the pursuit of ecological balance and environmental stewardship, with a focus on human welfare. Through grassroots engagement and innovative solutions, LSCC strives to promote sustainable development and contribute to climate change mitigation efforts in the country.

The Comboni Missionaries, an international religious institute founded by St. Daniel Comboni in 1867, are dedicated to the service of evangelization. They have been present in Uganda since 1910 and are active in 10 of the 19 Catholic dioceses across the country. With their extensive nationwide network, they have the potential to reach people throughout Uganda.

Laudato Si Center, registered in Uganda as a company limited by guarantee (Registration No: 80034622953159), is based in Mbuya Kampala, where corporate functions including Executive Management and Coordination tasks are performed. The Center is responsible for initiating, implementing, and coordinating environmental activities through its networks across the country.

Our Core Values

Core values are the key principles and priorities that are unique to the internal operations and culture of LSCC. The core values represent the essence of out internal interactions and will form the foundation for our engagements locally, nationally and globally. To be successful, LSCC will live it’s values and all actions must demonstrate our values. LSCC’s Core Values are summarized in an acronym (JIPET)

Justice: This value embodies the organization’s dedication to fairness, equity, and ethical conduct. It represents the commitment to promoting equality and impartiality in all endeavours.

Integrity: Integrity signifies the organization’s unwavering adherence to strong moral and ethical principles. It reflects the commitment to honesty, transparency, and upholding high standards of behaviour.

Prayer: Prayer underscores the importance of spirituality and reflection within the organization. It signifies the acknowledgement of the role of faith and meditation in guiding decisions and fostering a harmonious environment.

Empathy: This value highlights the organization’s emphasis on understanding, compassion, and consideration for others. It encourages a supportive and caring environment for all members.

Teamwork: Teamwork emphasizes the significance of collaboration, cooperation, and working collectively towards shared goals. It underscores the belief in the collective strength and potential of a unified team.

This acronym “JIPET” represents an ethos of fairness, integrity, spirituality, empathy, and teamwork within the LSCC.

What we do

To protect nature’s ecosystem and improve lives, Laudato Si Centre Comboni in Uganda works to:

  1. Education and Community Sensitization: LSCC works to expand the knowledge base on the environment and promote information sharing to inform effective actions through environmental education, increased public awareness through workshops, trainings, Radio talk shows and hands – on activities.
  2. Climate Mitigation: LSCC works to restore damaged ecosystems and protect existing ones, maintaining the integrity of nature’s balance through Afforestation, reforestation, and promoting individual and community tree planting and proper waste management initiatives.
  3. Drive innovation and entrepreneurship focusing on the 3 R s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle or Repurpose); youth and women empowerment for climate resilience, climate smart agriculture, food security, marine waste management, renewable energy, and clean cooking solutions.
  4. Strengthen community resilience, enhance climate change adaptability for sustainable development throughout the country.
